The Only Thing That’s Stopping You is You
Hello! My name is Kemi Daramola and I am a licensed real estate agent in the state of Illinois. The world of real estate has been an adventure I’ve always wanted to embark on and now I get to experience all of what it has to offer. I’ve realized that any new adventure taken on has a path full of ups and downs. The road to success isn’t a smooth one for sure. It also isn’t one to be compared to someone else’s. In comparison, some appear as relay races and others appear as marathons. The beginning of my road began back in January 2021. New year, new me? However, I started and I quit. Simply stated.
There isn’t any reason to be given besides allowing myself to get in my own way. Not only that but let’s throw in the many excuses I gave myself and did not take accountability for it either. “I have test anxiety” but no ownership that I’m overthinking to give me this anxiety and allow self doubt to come into play. “I don’t have time to study” but no sense of accountability that I created my schedule to be consumed with everything else with the exception of studying. This is not me saying I was hard on myself but I had to learn how to interrupt my distractions if I plan on reaching my goals. There’s a difference between going easy on yourself when necessary and quitting in pursuit of your dreams by procrastination and excuses. I fell in the latter.
Doubt, worry, and fear crippled me into believing that I would not and I could not. When things get tough, it’s only going to get tougher. It’s how it’s handled determines the rest of the path. Am I going to accept this as a lesson or a loss? I only accept lessons and wins. Going through a loss allows me to look back on what I could’ve done differently the next time around.
I asked myself is that it? Am I done with real estate? After my fourth and last attempt at the state licensure exam, I felt a sense of renewing. My obstacles looked like Mount Everest in the midst of them. Looking back, it was a hurdle I overcame. Learning and becoming a new person afterwards resulted with a renewed mindset that if I persist through it, I can see the other side. Failure isn’t one sided. Success isn’t one sided. Both go hand in hand. All that you’re going through isn’t all that there is. Getting back up and on the horse again has been challenging but not as daunting as before. It took steps of reprioritizing and renewing my mindset to get me in the momentum that I’m in now. Staying consistent in this momentum will continue to strengthen and lead me into success. A major process in getting there for me was finding gratitude then moving forward instead of feeling defeated.
Consistency is key. The key to your new home requires an understanding of what you desire in your new home and diligence in not settling for less. You have a goal. You have that customized walk in closet in mind. You have an in ground pool in mind. I like to tell my clients often not to settle for partiality. Their desires become my desires. Go for what you want and you’ll be proud of yourself that you did it. This is applicable to many facets in life.
A year and a half later, I continue to boldly embrace the path paved for me and stare fear in the face. New you doesn’t have to start with a new year. Start today. Feed your faith and your doubts will starve to death.
Interrupt your distractions.
Walk in integrity.
Remain grateful.
Change your attitude in order to change your altitude.
By the way, in case we forgot because it got kind of deep in the middle there (yikes!), I’m a real estate agent :-) who, for some reason along the way, also decided to get up and write. Anywho, have your people call my people?
Ciao
Kemi
